I came across this video today of a group of like-minded people working together to improve their lives. They call themselves the Grow Food Party Crew, a part of the Ojai Valley Green Coalition, their goal is to work together to build their local food shed and strengthen their community. They employ permaculture principles as their design approach to food production and land use. Projects include vegetable gardens, rainwater harvesting, as well as natural earthen structures. All the while having a great time doing it!

Why not start a Grow Food Party Crew in your neighborhood!

I am in love with this idea. If I only had the time to start this in my area! I would love to be part of a group that grows food together. I am not the best gardener, so I could really learn a lot from more experienced growers.
I have read quite a bit about community farms. I think it is really an appealing idea. Sort of Under the Tuscan Sun….
Found you on the Modern Eco List!

I am Co-Chair for the Ojai Valley Green Coalitions Grow Food Party Crew. We are having a blast! We always make sure to play some music and share a meal. Good Community buiilding activities!
I may be available to people to help them start up a Grow Food Party Crew in their area. It would look like this: Find a local organization who would like to do community service and has a budget to facilitate the installation of a group of gardens to be installed in one day. I would consult to help you pull the volunteers, resources and garden sites together and make it happen! I have a budget pretty well lined out. I haven’t done it outside of Ojai yet but may be open to it.

We actually had a client approach us on catering a party where the guest could only come in if they brought a food item they had grown. At first we were concerned with some of the food service code implications, etc but then came to realize there weren’t going to be that many guest and we couldn’t calculate what to buy and what to expect from the guests. They have switched the theme to people growing their own herbs (easy to do) and have a pre suggested list that matches with what we need. We are still in the planning stages!
