Remember that watch made from recycled steel and coal from the legendary doomed ship Titanic? Yea, well there are some new versions — from the same designer — that are now fetching upwards of $500,000 a piece. The previous watch has been selling for $300,000! The best part? Some of these aren’t even meant to be worn! From the article,
Their “T-Oxy” watch is made from the steel and coal of the legendary ship, which sunk in 1912. Some versions go for as much as $500,000. But because of the corrosive effect of the years under water, you’re not supposed to actually expose it to the air – which means it should never actually be worn.
Next up is the “Day & Night” watch — which, as you guessed, let’s you know whether or not it’s dark or light outside. That’s it. You’ll have to purchase an additional watch to actually get the exact time. There’s also the “Titanic-DNA” which pays homage to the planet’s oceans.
Ridiculous form of recycling? You bet. Cashing in on a tragedy? Definitely. Successful gimmick? Unfortunately, yes.

Thats crazy you can’t wear them, what would be the point.

I’ve long been fascinated by the story of TITANIC. But this is ridiculous and grotesque.
I had hoped this was a late “April Fools” hoax.
My outrage is not from cashing in on a tragedy, but from the outrageous pricing and foolish functions of these “watches.” One cannot be worn? Another does not tell time?
The watchbands for these timepieces should be soaked in skin-penetrating poison, so that anyone so stupid and willing to spend their wealth so conspicuously and foolishly can be quickly eliminated from the gene pool.
