Is it Helping?

CIMG0053_2.jpgAbout mid July my husband and I decided we could maybe help the earth a little if we hung the clothes to dry. So Chris strung some twine across the patio in the back and I headed off to the store to buy some clothespins. Since we started we’ve put up another line in the garage and found three drying racks during garage sale season.

Now, two months later I find myself asking the question, “Is using an alternate method to dry our clothes helping?” The answer is yes it is helping. In fact, it is helping in more ways then I thought when we started. Since we are not using electricity to dry our clothes we are not only helping the environment, we are helping ourselves too.

When looking at the last energy bill we noticed we had used less energy.(aprox. $15/month less) So we are saving money. This would be considered an obvious way turning off the dryer is helping. There are also a few other ways conserving energy is helping that I hadn’t considered before we started. The laundry has not piled up because there is only so much space to hang clothes. I am almost forced to keep up to avoid running out of drying space. Since we have laundry hanging all over the place, our house has a fresh laundry smell. The time I spend ironing has been cut down because the clothes have less wrinkles and seem easier to iron. And I think the biggest “help” is that I realized I do not have to depend on electricity to get the job done.

Now I must admit, Chris did ask me the other day if we could get rid of the dryer, but I am not quite to the point of letting go. So for now it will sit in the garage-just in case.
