Last month I wrote about being a green hotel guest. Then, I took an unplanned trip in which I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Frederick, MD. I was disappointed in several areas, and wrote the management upon my return home. I figured that I would not complain publicly if they contacted me directly to resolve the issue. No contact has been made. The following is my complaint letter, sent to the hotel email address.
I recently stayed in this Holiday Inn Express with my husband (details excluded). I would like to tell you about my disappointment during my stay. We placed the “Privacy Please” on the door, because we did not want the room cleaned. I also called the front desk to let them know that we would not be needing service that day.
However, when we returned to the hotel in the evening, it was obvious that the room had been entered as well as cleaned. The “Privacy” card was still on the outside of the door.
This bothered me on several levels. First of all, when I put that sign on the door, I feel better about my belongings. The fact that someone entered when I requested via the sign and a phone call is unacceptable.
Additionally, we had hung our towels to dry. I run an environmental blog called greenerMIAMI.com, and it is important for us to use as few resources as possible. This is another reason we put the sign on the door. There is no reason to clean an already clean room. There was a notice in the bathroom that if we didn’t want to change towels, to hang them. If we wanted new towels, place them in the bathtub. We were drying them, and they were still replaced. This is very upsetting to a person that cares so much about the environment, not to mention the room should not have been entered in the first place.
I’m very upset on this matter and plan to publish a public complaint online. If you are going to offer environmental programs, please stick with them.
Just the day before this stay, I published this article online: Green Hotel Guests
Finally, I requested a comment card at the front desk upon my departure. I was informed that the hotel changed hands a year ago, and new cards had not yet arrived. I did explain my issue to the front desk representative.
I hope to hear a reply from you. Thank you for your time. This message was also sent to the IC Hotels Group website.
