Using “trash” (construction and other refuse) to build homes. Quote “in a town this size would otherwise be discarding usable building materials that could build a small scale house a week… That’s crazy! when we have families that would do anything to own a house.” Great ideas, funky original homes. Check it out!

Dan…you are an inspiration. For about a decade I’ve been researching the affordable green housing situation in Canada (and globally) and realize the problems are much more ingrained in our society of consumers. There are solutions…yet people think you are crazy to address them.
Showing people that going green can save money, get them out of the poor house, own their own castle is a good start. Everyone should tread lightly and be the king/queen of their own castle. Good for you. I write about green simple living in Toronto and encourage people to look at what and how we use the limited resources in the world. Why throw out what we already have.
Well done…you go in my Hall of Fame for innovators and motivators. Thanks

Dan, this is so inspiring and heartwarming. It’s wonderful work that you’re doing. Do you allow volunteers to help build the house too? Or is it just the new homeowner and you working on it diligently?
P.S. It’s really incredible to see how much hope and purpose you brought to that young man. Everybody needs somebody else to tell them of the good they have inside and how their lives mean something… you did that for him and you’re going to do that for others one person at a time. Kudos!

We have one of Dan’s creations at our community garden, Emile Farm is located just east of downtown Houston. There are amazing things going on the farm. Mayor White has been out to visit and to partake in our salad mix. He loves what we are doing and he would like to see many more community gardens in Houston.
Check out the website The Last Organic Outpost
when in Houston , stop by and visit 711 Emile in the 3rd Ward

In our “throw away” society, I think what you’re doing is awesome! Not only does it serve a function, but inspires creativity since each house is so unique.
