Hi, at first I thought this just going to be a bashing video. I think it is important for people to understand that anything we do on earth will emit energy. We simply need to make sure that we bring consumption down to the point where it is not destructive and nature can regenerate itself. Currently north Americans emit double the energy that the planet can compensate and that’s the issue. But we can bring it down, IF WE ONLY WANT IT!
One last thing that I wanted to point out, so many people have been pointing at google, and they did not want to release the data of how much carbon they emit (or better, how much energy they use), because it was going to be bad publicity. What about the smaller hosting companies? How much energy do they use relative to the services offered? I’m going to make an assumption that google runs more efficient than most small ones, because they have the economy of scale, and in order to run a business profitable, you have to really take all your energy use on consideration.
I think one thing that we can do as users of these services is to unsubscribe from web communities that we don’t use anymore. This might sound banal, but all those accounts we have with certain online providers all use energy on some kind of server somewhere. So unsubscribe from services that you don’t need anymore. I will have to weave through my stuff, I’m pretty sure there will be a few dozens that I can get out of.
Global Warming and Climate Change is the biggest environmental issue that we face these days. the long term effects of these environmental changes to a nations economy is quite damaging. there would be a shortage in food supply as well as on water supply too.
