Just a quick post to send you over to Wild Onion to learn yourself how to make a reusable bag out of your old t-shirts. Very cool way to reuse old shirts. You can even throw them right in the laundry if need be.

There are so many great DIY ideas out there on blogs. Seen any thing else that Groovy readers might like? Send it my way at steve [at] groovygreen {dot} com

Even stronger, use old jeans. Cut off around the crotch area or a little longer, double or triple stitch along the cut line, turn inside out, trim up inside where the crotch meets. Cut straps from the discarded legs, fold over to make straps, turn and stitch them to the waistband. Making sure to double or triple stitch there , too. If button instead of snap, might want to cut button off and stitch shut.
Very strong.
I love the t-shirt idea.

The tee shirt bags require very little sewing (just one straight seam) and a few cuts. They are surprisingly strong and roomy– but what I like best about them is the washability! If you take them to the farmer’s market you can put your lettuces, etc directly into the bag(s), then wash them out later. Works for the regular grocery store, too. And there you have it– no more plastic bags, no more plastic baggies!
Check out the blog post http://wildonionstudio.wordpress.com/2008/06/01/tee-bags/ for a photo tutorial on the tee- bags!
Thanks for keeping green!
