UPS has barred their drivers from making left hand turns. It seems strange, but it seems to work:
In the last year alone, this system has shaved nearly 30 million miles
off UPS’s delivery routes, saved 3 million gallons of gas, and reduced
emissions by 32,000 metric tons of CO2 – the equivalent of removing
5,300 passenger cars of the road for an entire year.
3 million gallons of gas! Crikey, that’s a lot of gas!
Follow this link to a full report from UPS on what they are doing with they only make right hand turns. Apparently all the saved time idling, waiting on traffic and more efficient route planning makes a big difference for both the bottom line and the earth.
UPS has tips this Earth Day to make your driving a little more earth friendly too.
Go Big Brown!
