Treepee: A Tent That Truly Belongs In The Trees

tent.jpg

If you’ve ever wanted to avoid contact with earthly critters or simply understand what it’s like to be a piece of fruit, the Treepee looks to be a pretty good way to do it. Just hang the tent from a sturdy tree, secure the corners, and you’ll be swaying pretty. From the description:

Four tethers, one on each corner, allow the Treepee to be secured for a less mobile ride. Bug nets on the windows allow air to circulate without letting any little critters in. The fabric is fire retardant, water repellent and PU Coated. The fabric has a UV protection factor of 50+. There are pockets on the inside for storage and a bag on a pulley which allows essential supplies to be hauled up into the ‘den’.

Want one? Start saving — the thrill of hovering will cost you about $600. But hey — at least you’ll be safe while your friends are carried away by fire ants.

WOW!! That looks like loads of fun! While I’m not the least bit scared or disturbed by creepy crawlies, I also don’t camp where there’s any potential of being carried off by fire ants. I suppose if that were a risk, the $600 is well worth it! Awesome :) I’m glad I’ve found this blog!

If I show this to my son he’ll be begging for one of these. What a cool idea for staying off the ground and yet not having to take a camper or trailer along.

So neat! An eco friendly tree house…complete with a “den”- I love it!

This beats my old system of hanging a hammock and tarps! This would also be good for spring camping so the cold ground does not suck the heat out of you during the night.

Living in the South and having fireants literally move into your home at times, I think you need to know they do climb trees and walk up anchor points. It is a fun and cool looking tent! You could apply some type of repellant to the anchors and supports and make it work here in Texas. Also the good thing about Fireants if anything can be said is good about them is that they eat chiggers and seed ticks so you can walk thru the woods and fields and not get eaten alive except maybe for the fire ants themselves eating you! Tradeoffs in everthang!! kb

So, now that people have taught bears that we hang our food from trees…these are like happy meals to go!

does it come with a ladder to anchor the top.
and does it act like a faraday cage in a lightning strike!

@ Robert – having a look at the images over at drinkstuff leads me to think that this is no Photoshop, but the real deal. Either way…really cool way to spend an evening.

Is there a solid floor? If not it’ll near impossible to move around inside. If it does have a floor how does it stay completely rigid in use but portable for carrying?

whether or not the pic is shopped, the idea is terrible. It would be dangerous because the limb could fall down, and your pretty much hanging off a huge lightning rod… TREES ARE BAD THINGS TO BE UNDER IN A LIGHTNING STORM.

Anything that gets families outside is great!
I dont quite understand the photoshop debate – even if it is shopped it is probably to clear up a dodgy photo.
Love the hanging tent – just have to have a suitable tree
I think it would be great with out the footer supports – gently swaying around

That’s a pretty cool idea. There’s nothing worse when you’re trying to sleep than finding out you laid your sleeping bag over an awkward rock.

What about ants and other insects that crawl on tree branches? But nevertheless, great idea.. This is like a hammock with roof! good job!

To reiterate an earlier post, is there some sort of bottom support? If not it sounds incredibly uncomfortable, as well as it would put tremendous stress (200 lbs+ for the average male) on a single point. I know of very few tent materials that could hold up to that. If there isn’t bottom support, this would be an incredibly useless product. Especially for $600.

i think it’s a cute thing for kids to play in but not to sleep in for camping

It’s a concept. I doubt this has actually been tried out though. I’m agreeing with ulyssesunbound about all the stresses that would be created with one person. Never mind 2 people. Also, it’s probably an unsafe idea as well.
I’m seeing a trend of these ‘blogs’ where a concept is being presented as a real product. It’s disingenuous

Brilliant idea. But the person who came up with the name should be taken out and flogged. “TreePee”? Sounds like something a tree does on a fire hydrant. And please – the people saying, “Oh, oh! It’s not SAFE! What if… like lightning strikes the tree… or a UFO crashes and knocks the tree over on you?” are the kind of idiots who take all the fun and wonder out of life. They might as well just wrap the world in foam rubber and hide all the sharp objects so these dorks won’t have to worry that someone will put their eye out.

Fire ants are known for their lively and aggressive behavior, swarming over anyone or anything that disturbs their nest.

Treepee seemed to minimize this risk

Wow, no Geonemotode, that photo has not been edited. Also, learn to spell and then I might believe that you have any REAL experience with professional photo editing.
