California Public Schools to Teach Climate Change
|By Chris Welch in Climate Change, Green Politics | February 16, 2008|
Senator Joe Simitian (D) of Palo Alto, California has introduced a state senate bill that would require all California public schools to teach “climate change” as a part of the regular science curriculum. This measure has already passed the California state Senate and now heads to the state Assembly.
As you can imagine there are plenty of people not too supportive of this bill, many say that the science is not clear and this is nothing more than political propaganda. I for one would encourage discussion on this issue and see nothing wrong with this being part of the curriculum. The argument that there is not enough empirical data or significant research on the subject sounds like a perfect reason to bring this into the science room. Seriously, our nations future walks the halls of high school’s across the nation. Let’s at least give them an opportunity to study the issue.
