Swine is swell at pest control

07121801.jpgIn yet another example of permaculture displaying it’s massive effectiveness a recent study released in Michigan has shown that when pigs are allowed to graze under apple trees in organic orchards the pest infestations are lowered to virtually zero. It’s all about the great layering that takes place in a permaculture system. We have to keep pushing for our animals to come out of those awful confinement barns and be used for something. I would imagine a day spent eating fallen apples in an orchard would be a pretty nice day to a pig. This is a picture of Ollie from Sugar Creek Farm. He looks like someone who could enjoy some fallen apples or peaches or pears or apricots or cherries…well…you get the idea.
