Bush Almost Blows Himself Up with Ford Hydrogen Hybrid – Now a Joke?!?

bushplug.jpgVia Huffington Post, the Detroit News is reporting that President Bush nearly blew up a Ford Hydrogen Plug-in Hybrid at a photo op by attempting to plug in a charging cord into the hydrogen tank. Ford CEO Alan Mulally earned a portion of his reported $39.1 million salary by preventing him from doing so.

Mulally told journalists at the New York auto show that he intervened to prevent President Bush from plugging an electrical cord into the hydrogen tank of Ford’s hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid at the White House last week.

[snip]

I grabbed his arm and I moved him up to the front,” Mulally said. “I wanted the president to make sure he plugged into the electricity, not into the hydrogen This is all off the record, right?”

Heh heh, sorry Alan (and President Bush), I guess not.

if Bush can’t use it properly, it is a poor design. Granted, he is in the 10% percentile of intelligence, but that accounts for a lot of people.

What zobo said. Look at Toyota’s profits and look at Ford’s profits. Ford never gave a shit about green technology and now they are losing their shirts so they come up with this vehicle.

Jon Fox you’re grabbing at straws if you use this. THE PLUG WAS RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOLE I’m sure it probably wasn’t marked it is not proof that he is dumb. Did anyone actually read the report? The newspaper tries as hard as they can to make a bumbling idiot out of an innocent mistake.

I think Mr.President is not stupid not it is an irony.
To me it sounds like FORD is stupid in not fool proofing the hydrogen power/fuel outlet, so that even by mistake if someone tries to plug into the wrong one, they simply can’t do wrong if it is FOOL-PROOFED, I think FORD has to put it’s brain into this thing and make safe when these vehicles go into production.

Out of the blue no one knows what is what after all!

Yeah, except for the part where Mulally says he moved Bush to the -front- of the car, meaning Bush was at the wrong end to begin with. =)

Although it’s obvious he’s not the brightest bulb in the box, this is actually more of an indicator of Bush Jr’s upbringing. This guy has never had to plug anything in for himself. He has servants for that. This little slip up is a sign of how disconnected he is from the rest of us.

Not to mention, Ford better rethink their hydrogen tank filler design. Bush won’t be the only one.

I call BS. I can’t believe Ford would be stupid enough to have the hydrogen filler tank accept an electrical plug, so how could anything blow up? If they were that stupid, it’s hard to fault anyone, even Bush, for plugging a cable where it fits.

No, this is another idiotic, liberal-loony, Bush-whacker overstating a non-story.

Pity he intervened really. It could have done the world of good to America to lose the idiot.

While the president is a tool and probably couldn’t figure out something obvious, I think this is really Ford’s fault for not making this safer. In the audio industry there are Neutrik plugs that prevent exposed and energized plugs from being touched by anything (huge safety advantage).

I guess this shows that Ford needs to do more USER testing – and make it impossible to apply electricity to the fuel source without totally dismantling the safety nets.

Well, let’s start from the top. First off,

    1) I’m enlisted in the US Army and know (personally) how much of a moron George Bush is. Until you join the armed forces, you have no right to defend him or his actions.

    2) The man clearly doesn’t know anything about hybrids, because he owns oil, and he’s from Texas. How many Texans even know we have the means to fuel vehicles without using only fossil fuels? None, until now.

    3) Whether it was an accident, of some media twist, it still makes for a good story, and that’s what counts. People today, especially myself, are entertained with the thought of Bush blowing him self to smitherines. Everyday my buddies and I get blown up over an oil/gasoline issue, why shouldn’t George?

Let’s just be grateful that it did not go in the way that could have been used to manipulate the American public, and the world even more. Such a mishap could have had an instant devastating global effect you know.

Mulally just said today that he never meant it to get out in the airwaves. He was “just joking”, and said, “sorry.” Too many fools these days believing everything, printing everything and then having to retract. Why didn’t the original reporter call Mulally and verify before writing the story?
