UPDATE:  Double Ew.

Despite the breadth of the sanction, USDA officials underscored their belief that the meat, distributed by Westland Meat Co., poses little or no hazard to consumers, and that most of it was eaten long ago.

Ew.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Sunday ordered the recall of 143 million pounds of frozen beef from a California slaughterhouse, the subject of an animal-abuse investigation, that provided meat to school lunch programs.

Officials said it was the largest beef recall in the United States, surpassing a 1999 ban of 35 million pounds of ready-to-eat meats. No illnesses have been linked to the newly recalled meat, and officials said the health threat was likely small.

I’m glad that I went in on a 1/3 of a side of grass fed local beef with friends.

beef
(the good stuff, not the recalled beef)

If you must see the cruelty video that led to this recall, I found it here: Humane Society (I lasted 15 seconds.)

You worry about health threats when animals are being treated like that?

no you misunderstand me. That video is so disturbing to me because of the violence towards these animals. That is why I am glad I know where mine came from and that it was humanely raised.

“1/3 side of grass fed beef”…. The cruelties shown on this tape is but the tip of the iceberg. Am reading “Slaughterhouse” by Gail Eisnitz. The stuff that goes on inside the arbittior! The horrors – animals killed ‘piece by piece”, skinned alive – truly an insight into the butcher. No matter how kind you think your MEat was raised – the end’s the same….. A frantic line of killed animals….. for what???? A tasty morsel? Surely we as a society can do better than this. Enviornmentally it’s not sound – for health it’s linked to cancer, obesity & diabetes. Glad my body is NOT a temporary graveyard for a carcass.
For health & heart….. GO VEGAN!
