“Paper or plastic?” is soon to be a question of the past at our stores. When you come to shop, bring any bags you have on hand. Really, any bag will do – old, new, paper, plastic, fabric, even backpacks or woven baskets! You’ll feel good about helping our environment and we’ll even give you a refund of at least 5 cents per bag.

We make it easy by offering a wide selection of reusable bags for sale at our stores — check out our “Better Bag” — only 99 cents and it’s made from recycled plastic bottles. Helping the environment in two ways!

Check out their announcement here.

Too bad that recycled paper bags are actually much worse for the environment!

This is meaningless, it will only work out well if people transition to re-usable plastic bags.

Getting your groceries to-go in paper bags isn’t doing the environment any good unless you also stop being an environmentalism lemming and do some individual thinking. Use this opportunity that Whole Foods is giving you to examine the situation reasonably and make the decision to invest $20 in re-usable, stylish, lifetime shopping bags. When you can explain to a few friends of yours the logic in skipping the paper vs. plastic debate altogether and moving onward to a greater understanding of our environment, then you can influence your friends to make better decisions. That’s how we are going to solve these problems – with ingenuity and intelligence.
