Kineticel: Baby Bouncers That Entertain, As Well As Recharge

While we’re on the subject of harnessing kinetic energy, another green idea what caught my idea and takes advantage of the same principal is the Kineticel Baby Bouncer. From the description:

“A bouncing seat that charge up the oft-used D-size batteries required for so many baby devices. A whole range of baby-related gear can be made green with Kineticel technology. Imagine generating the electricity needed to run anything from a baby swing, stroller, or crib vibrator, without limit. “In 2004, 4,112,052 births were registered in the United States. If only a quarter of these babies’ used a battery-operated bouncer seat each year, over 6.2 million D-batteries would be consumed. This represents just a fraction of the baby gear that uses battery power. We need to curb this consumption.” —Creator Yael Miller”

The Kineticel line also mentions taking advantage of such devices as workout machines, barbells, toilets, vacuum cleaners — anything that creates energy as a result of motion could potentially be harvested. Interesting. More photos after the jump.

That… is potentially one of the niftyist ideas I have seen. I’m going to have to take a look at this product, as well as see what else they have planned. I have seen the exercise equiptment that powers battery rechargers, and even a few that hook into the house electric supply, but this concept does open up a huge untapped resource for power building.
