Attention Netflix denizens! The documentary A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash is available for your viewing pleasure. I “gushed” about this film after catching it on The Sundance Channel’s THE GREEN a couple months back and would highly recommend it. It’s especially helpful as a primer for anyone that is a little thin on the whole idea of Peak Oil. Here a little summary,
“Produced by award-winning filmmakers Basil Gelpke and Ray McCormack, this documentary examines the world’s dependency on oil and the impending chaos that’s sure to follow when the resource is depleted. Straight from the headlines, this hot-button topic may represent the world’s most dire crisis. Through expert interviews, the film spells out in startling detail the challenge we all face and underscores our desperate need for alternative energy.”

This fiim is okay, and by all means see it, but it’s really preaching to the choir. We know there is misdirection and disinformation in the media from the current regime. The pictures of derelict petroleum boom towns are good, but stills would be of equal or better value – even from National Geographic.
Two better films in my opinion would be The End of Suburbia, which covers much of the same ground AND shows greater imopact as well as a couple of responses; and the Corporation which is quite enlightening as to the nature of the beast.
