Secret Santa: Bush And Cheney Christmas Gifts Show Concern For Weather?

This is a stretch — but an amusing correlation to climate change nonetheless. MSNBC managed to get a hold of President Bush and Vice President Cheney’s tax return and noticed some interesting gifts for 2006. One of the highlights for me was what both men gave the other for Christmas.

Dick Cheney bought President Bush “a $658 wireless weather station as a Christmas present for his boss.” Meanwhile, Bush “presented Cheney with $667 worth of instruments to measure temperature, barometric pressure and tides.” Does anyone else find this slightly amusing? I mean, I know they’re both environmentally-sound individuals, but could this mean the administration is taking a closer look at temperature changes?

Better yet, could this be the investment in climate change monitoring R&D that the administration has touted over the past several months?

Have we been wrong to criticize all along?

Hit the jump for more gifting goodness — including Cheney’s $615 leather hunting boots, a $400 cowboy hat and a $7,200 bronze sculpture of a Cheyenne warrior. Wow. Just what I’ve always wanted.

What a bunch of crap. Who wants all that junk? Some of that stuff is like what I would get my Grandpa who has everything and I wouldn’t know what else to get him. Only my stuff would be cheaper. They must all shop at the Sharper Image or something.

I just think Dubya was repaying a $9 bet he lost to Cheney, and they both wanted some beer money for Christmas so fiddled the books to screw the tax-man and -payer.

Well that’s far more believable than these oil tycoons giving a flying fig for the environment.
